PRACTIC TEST FOR CTET/STET
Piaget’s Theory
Cognitive Development: The Mental Action of Acquiring Knowledge through Thought, Experiences and Senses.
Cognitive Structure:
Schemas: A schema describes a pattern of thought or behaviour
that organizes categories of information and the relationships among them.
Cognitive Functioning:
Assimilation: The process of absorbing, incorporating, or making similar. In making judgments, for example, it refers
to finding similarities between the target being judged and features of the
context in which it is judged.
The child is putting the toy in his mouth is example of Assimilation.
Accommodation: Accommodation
involves the modification of an existing schema
to understand (accommodate) new information. It may involve creating a new schema altogether, for example, a child
may have a schema for birds (feathers, flying, etc.) and then they see a plane,
which also flies, but would not fit into their bird schema. The child is
pushing or grasping the toy is example of Accommodation.
Equilibration: Piaget
developed the concept of equilibration to describe how new information is balanced with existing knowledge. It involves the processes of assimilation
(fitting new information into existing mental schemas) and accommodation
(adjusting or changing a schema to fit new information).
